Stop persecuting the sex factor

I can’t help but feel that commentary on sex appeal in video games is increasingly erring on the prudish side, and I have an incredible disliking towards that.

Whenever I hear about games like Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, Tomb Raider, or some panty fighter out there (à la Bikini Karate Babes), I hear a rather prudish commentary towards these games and their sex appeal (though sometimes this isn’t the intention). It doesn’t matter if the games are good, bad, or plain, the point is they have sex appeal, and if it has sex appeal, it’s somehow crass just because it’s sexy. You can’t have a female character the guys’ jaws will drop to without shrill feminist commentary barging in uninvited, ready to try and murder all our pleasure. Having sex appeal is suddenly something to be ashamed of.

I’m so sick and tired of this attempt by prudes to invade gaming culture, at least that’s how I see it. I get it, sex isn’t everything, but that doesn’t mean games shouldn’t be titilating, or that sex appeal is exclusively for the lowbrow. And I hate the idea that just because you’re a horndog you lead a sad existence. It’s just not true.
